Borsten
Born and raised in Holland I received my basic art and graphic training in Amsterdam. The Dutch environment stamped a indelible mark on my personality and guided my whole existence and professional life..
As a young man I started early in advertising as an assistent to the Art-Director, drawing headlines, packages and creating all types of fancy letterings on countless layouts. Letraset was not yet invented and Desktop Publishing stil in a very distant future. I found this type of work very exciting and my enthusiasm was soon rewarded with a pair of glasses that didn't leave my nose ever since. But the love for typefaces stayed with me forever...
However cosy, after-war Holland was quite difficult, especially for a young man with a lot of ambition. I had to go out and see more of the world or at least find greater opportunities.
I landed in Venezuela, where part of my family lived already and adopted this beautiful country as my homeland. I found my venezuelan sweetheart to whom I am still married. I continued with my career quite successfully and I tackled all type of graphic stuff. I also established my own advertising agency and had many national and international clients that I served faithfully, many of them for decades. I was one of the first to introduce the then top of the line workstation Chromacom (Hell-Siemens), a $700,000 adventure that ended up here in the US when we fled the Venezuelan turmoil and brought the whole stuff and my extended family with me to Miami. At present I am still going strong!
I had 4 children and am left with 3 after my son Raul, a very talented architect and sculptor, drowned in an intent to save a boy at a Venezuelan beach. My remaining two sons and one daughter are all accomplished working artists in the USA.
My wife and I are also proud US citizens.
