HOW IT WORKS
Because I understand that it is not easy to make a choice in an unfamiliar area, I want to make it easy for you to take a decision Now. Just do the following:
FIRST you should think about what kind of picture you would like to have on your wall. A big one a small one or rather in between. Should it portray the person full length, half length or just the face. Then would you like a simple background that does not intervene with the sitter or show rather some particular belongings.
Should the person or pet be alone or accompanied.
Next you need to gather the reference material that I am supposed to use in painting the portrait. Obviously I am not familiar with the subject. I need reliable reference photos from which I can come up with the best likeness and an expressive pose. Most of the time that pose has to be created, because often none of the pictures have all the qualities necessary for an exiting portrait and we have to pick the niceties from each of the pictures and include them in one whole.
If you don't have the photographs yet you can easily make them. Most everybody has a digital camera and can take snapshots on the fly. Do so and AVOID USING FLASH! FLASHLIGHT DISTORTS THE IMAGE. It flattens the form and because it is not natural light it can not produce natural photographs. The sensitivity of the modern camera to ambient light, even the economical ones, is quit good and you really don't need flash at all. Use a largest lens opening the camera has or use the highest speed, and let the camera do the rest. The higher speed may produce less sharpness in the background. The main focus will be on the subject itself!
Once I get your photos I'll start working on a basic sketch that I will submit to you for approval. It will show the artistic part, my choice in gesture, look and pose of the sitter. You will get the sketch by email or facebook.
Taking into consideration all the remarks you made the finishing of the artwork will be done and submitted to you for final approval. In the case of a Charcoal drawing this is a one step procedure. In the case of a more elaborate painting you will get progress shots so you can enjoy watching the creation of a work of art and become an active part of the process.
